Podiatry

What is podiatry?

Podiatrists are trained health care professionals, who are able to assess, diagnose and treat individuals with problems in their feet, ankles and lower limb. The podiatry services we offer at Coastal clinic include the following:

Toenail management
Simple nail cutting service
Reduction of thickened toenails
In-growing toenails
Deformed toenails
Treatment of Fungal infected toenails
Reduction of callus and removal of corns
Biomechanical assessment

This may lead to a tailored, rehabilitation treatment plan which includes appropriate strengthening and stretching exercises.
If it is warranted, accommodative insoles, heel lifts or the prescription of orthoses may be included in the management of your condition.

Treatment of foot pain
Foot massage
Diabetes check
Treatment of chilblain

What to expect at your first visit

At your first visit the podiatrist will carry out a comprehensive assessment to understand fully the nature of your foot-related problem. This will comprise being asked a few questions about your medical history and any medication you are currently taking, tests to assess the circulation in your feet, a neurological test, and questions to ascertain when the pain started, exact location, what activities may aggravate and/or relieve the pain. With this information, we can devise a treatment plan tailored to your individual need.

What to bring

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing. It would be helpful, if you are booked in for a biomechanical assessment, to bring along a pair shorts to change into.
